Event horizon one: a running start

Hot on the heels of our beta event, last night we hosted our first official Event Horizon!

This Cambridge Event Meetup brought together event producers, marketing managers, festival organisers, and those looking to get into the industry. The aim of the Meetup is to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where people can come together to learn and share, and boy, did our attendees deliver!

The first Event Horizon was held at the wonderfulCambridge Union Society, a stunning building hidden away in the city centre. After CUS provided guests with a glass of bubbly they were treated to a tour of the beautiful venue by Event Manager Katherine Rickett, who emphasised the versatility of the space.

We then launched straight into the talk from our guest speaker, someone who has had an incredibly busy past few weeks: Adam Moffat, Director of OSB Events. As the organiser of the  Cambridge Half Marathon, he shared with us his honest and entertaining outlook on putting on large-scale sporting events. Answering quite candidly about building his events from 1,500 to over 10,000, he also spoke about the difficulties we all face in starting a new business. Of course, everyone loves a horror story so we were enthralled with how they faced the 'Beast from the East', something that would have made even the most hardened event manager turn tail.

Afterwards, we were able to try out the pedal-powered smoothies from the innovative Cambridge-based company, Outspoken. With our beloved city being cycle-centric, and as an extension of their bicycle couriers, the company also have an event division that provide such interactive and engaging activities such as the aforementioned smoothie makers, micro cinemas, and mobile phone charging lockers.

We had some wonderful tweets from the event heads in attendance . . .

With such a wonderful vibe and engaging audience, we've already started putting the plans in motion for Event Horizon Two. We'll be announcing it shortly via the meetup platform so be sure to join our group to be the first to get details on the date, venue and speaker!
