Lighting the future for key workers

Tonight we revealed Anglia Ruskin University Nursing School as the third secret venue in Cambridge’s #LightItBlue campaign. This building was illuminated in unison with the 8pm Clap For Carers movement to thank key workers for the fantastic work they are doing to help us all.

ARU’s Young Street Building is a new addition to the ever-changing face of Cambridge and houses the Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care, providing teaching space for nursing and health courses. Professor Nigel Harrison, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty said:

“We are proud that our award-winning Young Street Building, where many of the region’s NHS staff have been educated in recent years, was illuminated for the Light it Blue campaign. It is an opportunity for ARU to pay tribute and to say thank you, to our NHS partners, whose courageous and compassionate staff, together with our students, are working so hard to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.”

We organised this for the third week (previous venues included King’s College, Cambridge and Storey’s Field Centre, Eddington) with the help of our dear friends at Pink Lamp (installation lighting) and JMPS (installation projection).

We were thrilled when Anglia Ruskin got in touch asking if we would colour them blue. The fact they have a dedicated nursing training building really hit home that they are the educational institutions that are preparing our frontline of tomorrow” - Justin Crane, The Crane Event

For the safety of all, the planning of this campaign was done from our homes, and the venue kept private until the installation was removed. We will illuminate another secret venue next week using the same strict precautions.
