A Cambridge blue salute to the NHS

Tonight, with the help of our event production and lighting friends Pink Lamp, we illuminated the iconic King’s College, Cambridge to salute key workers on the frontline who are risking their own health to care for others.

This is part of the #LightItBlue and #MakeItBlue campaigns which have been bringing some striking visuals to temporarily-redundant venues across the country this past week including the Royal Albert Hall, Angel of the North, and The Shard. The Cambridge response adds extra weight to the ‘Clap for the NHS’ movement which has been embraced by many residents from the safety of their own homes, and endorsed by celebrities such as Liam Gallagher and Toyah Willcox who have turned their houses blue.

Our very own Event Management Director, Justin Crane, came up with the idea to get Cambridge involved and he has been project managing our city’s inclusion from the safety of his living room over the last few days.

“Having found that our business was essentially put on hold overnight, we looked at what we could do to not only fill our time constructively, but also bring some positivity around the city. Luckily, our business involves setting up events all around the world, so speaking to the right people and discussing the successful and safe delivery via video calls really wasn’t an issue. We’d like to thank the King’s College team who have been incredibly welcoming of the project.” - Justin Crane, Event Management Director at The Crane Event.

Local event production company Pink Lamp, who have also found themselves in an unprecedented state of enforced inaction, showed the light with technical know-how. Their Managing Director commented . . .

“I am really pleased The Crane Event asked us to be involved in the #makeitblue project. It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation for the powerhouse that is the NHS! I’m looking forward to illuminating some key buildings in Cambridge. We are using a skeleton crew and will be following the government guidelines to ensure we are all kept safe but are still able to support such a great idea” - Charlie Evans, Managing Director at Pink Lamp

With plans to light up a different venue around the city every Thursday (to be kept a secret for all of our safety), we may have hit a temporary road bump, but are still looking to make an impact by turning Cambridge blue.
